Therapy details - Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

EFT was developed by Gary Craig in the early 1990's and is based on the premise that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy field. It is believed that our unresolved negative emotions are major contributors to most, if not all, of our physical pains and diseases.

EFT releases the disruption by using a tapping procedure which stimulates designated meridian end points around the body (the face, collar bone, under arm and hand). Restoring the balance of the energy system neutralises emotional conflicts at their source, allowing the body and mind to resume their natural healing. EFT is therefore about returning the mind, body and spirit to a state of balance by rebalancing the energy system.

The client taps whilst thinking about their problem. They repeat various phrases to help them stay focussed on their issue (and the physical or emotional feelings which it engenders); the aim is to neutralise or soften the feelings or thoughts which the problem has been causing. Often this happens in a single session, although for some deeper, more complex issues, several sessions may be required
